Why the change in Kanopy services?
After the 30 seconds of the third viewing of a title, Kanopy automatically purchased the license for $120. The library has been able to sustain the cost previously. However, with the rise in popularity for recreational use, the cost has drastically risen and the library is no longer able to sustain the cost. Therefore, the library will have to approve all licensing purchases.
Who can request titles from Kanopy?
Any member of the SUNY Schenectady community can request the licensing purchase of a title. However, only requests for academic use will be considered.
How long will the request take for approval?
Once the
Kanopy Request Form is completed, it is automatically sent to Giovannine Matheron, Collection Development & Electronic Resources Librarian. Please submit requests at least 7 days in advance. Once a decision has been made, an e-mail will be sent to you directly.
Can I steam Kanopy or Academic Video Online (AVON) though teleconferencing software?
No, neither Kanopy nor AVON support streaming videos for online classes via teleconferencing software due to copyright, authentication, and bandwidth requirements. A permanent link to video clips can be embedded into your course site for students to view on their own.
