Our reference and circulation services are available all hours the library is open. In addition, research help on any topic is given in-person, by phone, and via online real-time chat through our cooperative “Ask Us 24/7” service. Type your reference question into the “IM a Librarian” search box on Begley’s website, and a college librarian will answer. In 2017 Begley librarians answered 290 on- and off-campus e-reference requests.
We endeavor to teach information literacy to students, including demonstrating our 87 web-accessible subscription databases, and how to use them for class research assignments. In 2017, librarians taught 35 class sessions. These library sessions engage students in hands-on learning and foster college success.
Borrowing and lending of off-campus materials reached 1,123 requests for books and articles through our interlibrary loan service in 2017. SCCC students, faculty, and staff can request materials Begley doesn’t have on site at any time through the website.
Begley’s first floor has 24 networked computers, as well as an additional computer lab (B221) on the 2nd floor.
Finally, your resources in Begley Library include: 58,449 print volumes, 102,674 e-books, 111 print periodicals, 121,040 online periodicals, 137,657 sound recordings in all formats, and 21,649 film and video recordings, all for the year 2017.
